Director of Research

Kim Christie, PhD

Dr. Christie is the Director of Research at Okanagan Clinical Trials; she has extensive knowledge of neurological diseases, specializing in Alzheimer's disease. With this experience, she spearheads a memory clinic that is offered free to the public.  Dr. Christie is the initial contact for all new research studies conducted at our site. She obtained both her Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Neuroscience from the University of Calgary and conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Melbourne. She has published multiple scientific papers in high impact journals and conveys a deep understanding of the brain and peripheral nervous system. In her spare time, Kim thoroughly enjoys the outdoors and spends her time mountain biking, trail running, backpacking and backcountry skiing.


Regulatory Liason and Clinical Research Coordinator

Carol Fazekas, B.A, CCRP

Carol is a certified clinical research professional with many years experience as a Clinical Research Coordinator. She is our site’s principal regulatory liaison with sponsors and IRBs in completing study start-up documents and ongoing reporting of regulatory issues for all clinical trials conducted at our site. Carol also oversees and coordinates training of new site staff and ensures all staff are trained as per sponsor and protocol requirements. Prior to joining Okanagan Clinical Trials, Carol worked as a clinical research assistant where she was involved in all aspects of research coordination. In addition to her broad clinical experience, she has a bachelor's degree in Sociology and is proficient with many software programs and at creating and managing patient databases.


Clinical Research Coordinator

Kathy Ross, CCRP

Kathy is a certified clinical research professional specializing in diabetic research trials here at Okanagan Clinical Trials. Kathy has an extensive background in the healthcare industry and brings with her a wealth of knowledge in areas ranging from high acuity medicine, medical administration and organizational learning & development. Kathy’s strong interpersonal skills enable her to excel at patient interaction, while her broad healthcare background diversifies her for involvement in all aspects of clinical research. 
 

Clinical Research Coordinator

Patricia Roberts, CCRP

Patricia is a certified clinical research professional who has worked locally in clinical research for over 13 years. She has worked in a wide scope of medical indications and specializes in neurological research trials including Alzheimer’s disease here at Okanagan Clinical Trials. Patricia has an extensive background in the healthcare industry as well as business and brings with her a wide scope of skills including accounting and marketing. Patricia is currently completing her degree through distance learning at Thompson River University. 


Research Assistant

Wendy Zabel

Wendy is an experienced Medical Laboratory Technologist. As an experienced phlebotomist; she collects and processes lab specimens, vital signs and ECGs. She also assists where needed in the conduct of complex research protocols.
 

Research Assistant

Taylor Stranaghan, B.H.K

Taylor is an experienced Research Assistant with a Bachelor of Human Kinetics and a desire to obtain her Medical Degree. She joins our team to collect ECG readings and vital signs, as well as to provide patients with memory assessments for prospective studies.Taylor has obtained her phlebotomy certification and assists in this area along with processing and shipping samples. 

 

Research Assistant

Rajshree Balaji, B.H.K

Raj has been involved in research activities at UBC-Okanagan during her undergraduate degree. She joins our team to collect vital signs and perform ECGs. In addition, she also assists with processing, storing and shipping of biological specimens. 

 

Office Manager

Lyndall Cay

Lyndall is the Office Manager at Okanagan Clinical Trials.  She brings with her a solid background in finance gained from working within the accounting industry.  She has a thorough working knowledge of finance, vendor relations and  administration. She is involved in study finances, CTMS management, database entries and assists the PI and Study Coordinators where needed.

 

Receptionist

Kayla Makinen

Kayla has strong organizational and interpersonal skills. She provides administrative assistance to the research team.
